The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

The project lead organization is The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. PolyU possess a unique position as Hong Kong’s leading university for Design, recognized as one of the world’s leading university for research and education. In recent years, the university had led studies with a cross disciplinary approach that integrates design practice (via wearables, materials, products and environment) with technology to address concerns of under-represented communities. In addition, PolyU is also recognized as one of the world’s top 10 universities in terms of the impact and number of citations of AI related research articles based on SCOPUS, the world's largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed research literature.

The project’s UK partner is Prof. Zang YING chun. Director, Department of Fashion and Textile Design, Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University and Acting Dean, Tsinghua Arts & Design Institute in Milan.  Tsinghua university is ranked as the 1st university in Asia by Times Higher Education.  Established in 1911, Tsinghua University is a unique comprehensive university bridging China and the world, connecting ancient and modern, and encompassing the arts and sciences. Through the pursuit of education and research at the highest level of excellence, Tsinghua is developing innovative solutions that will help solve pressing problems in China and the world.

Theory

Launched in New York in 1997, Theory is an international fashion brand with 434 retail locations. Theory envisions itself as a modern, conscious and responsible company that has a positive impact on customers, the fashion industry and the planet. Theory HK will support the project by sponsoring the materials and clothing that will be used for design experimentation at the design studios.

Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile (CHAT)

CHAT (Centre for Heritage, Arts and Textile) is a part of the heritage conservation project of The Mills, the former cotton-spinning mills of Nan Fung Textiles in Tsuen Wan. Through its multifaceted curated programmes, which include exhibitions and co-learning programmes, CHAT aims to be an art centre that weaves creative experiences for all. CHAT is operated by MILL6, a non-profit arts and cultural organization and a registered charity in Hong Kong. MILL6’ s primary mission is to manage and operate CHAT, the first art centre of its kind in Hong Kong.
